Food collection to benefit local families in need

Vandergrift Police Department is conducting its Feed the Families Project through Nov. 18.

Non-perishable food items and monetary contributions will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the borough building, 109 Grant Ave., in care of Officer Joseph Gray.

Items collected will be distributed to residents who need help to put a meal on the table on Thanksgiving Day.

‘Sister Act’ to be performed at Freeport Area HS

The drama department of Freeport Area High School will present “Sister Act” at 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in the Middle School Auditorium, 629 S. Pike Road, Buffalo Township.

Appointments available for holiday pet photo sessions

Vandergrift Museum and Historical Society will sponsor a pet photo shoot Nov. 18 by appointment at 184 Sherman Ave., Vandergrift.

Appointments are required. Photos will be by Zidek Photography. One non-edited photograph will be emailed for free and additional and edited ones will be available for a fee. Two backdrops will be available to select.

Brackenridge

Today: The Allegheny Valley Salvation Army and Community Center will distribute free grab-and-go lunches from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the center parking lot, 917 Brackenridge Ave. Free grocery items from Walmart and Aldi will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Today: Bingo will begin at 7:15 p.m. at the American Legion, 845 First Ave.

Saturday: The 56 East Band will entertain from 3 to 6 p.m. at the American Legion, 845 First Ave. Public welcome.

Gilpin

Today: Gilpin Volunteer Fire Department will host bingo at 7:15 p.m. at the firehall, 113 Firehall Road.

Harrison

Today: Friends of Allegheny Valley Community Library will meet at 10 a.m. in the library community room, 1522 Broadview Blvd. New members are welcome and there is no membership fee.

Today: Burtner House Restoration Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Harrison Township municipal building, 1 Municipal Drive. New members welcome.

Friday: Natrona Heights Veterans of Foreign Wars will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the post, 894 Veterans Lane. Doors open at 6 p.m., and there will be specials, a 50-50 raffle and final game jackpot.

Saturday: The Diaper Pantry at Christ Our Hope Anglican Church will distribute diapers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church, 926 Painter Ave., and at Sheldon Park, both in Natrona Heights. Recipients must drive up and remain in their vehicles. First-time recipients must provide their own identification, the child’s birth certificate and a current WIC or SNAP card.

Saturday: A spaghetti dinner will be from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Veterans of Foreign Wars, 894 Veterans Lane. Menu: spaghetti, salad, roll and dessert. Dine in or takeout. Cost: $10; children, $5; free for veterans and first responders. The band Americana will be featured from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. and there will be a cash bar and all-day 50-50.

Jefferson

Today: Bingo will be at 6:30 p.m. at the American Legion, 754 N. Pike Road. Doors open at 5 p.m. The kitchen will be open. Proceeds benefit post and auxiliary projects.

Leechburg

Saturday: Leechburg Rotary Club will host a pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Cross Roads Community Presbyterian Church, 271 Main St. There will be a silent auction. Proceeds will be donated to Lower Kiski Ambulance Service and help to fund Rotary scholarships. Tickets: visit Sprankle’s Neighborhood Market or Debbie’s Hair Salon, both of Leechburg, or at the door.

Saturday : A gun and cash bash to benefit Gilpin and Leechburg volunteer fire companies will be from noon to 5 p.m. at the Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company truck building, 268 Canal St. Doors open at 11:30 a.m. Cost: $25, includes music, food and refreshments. Nov. 18: A turkey bingo will be hosted by Leechburg Volunteer Fire Company at 6 p.m. at the firehall. Doors open at 4 p.m. and early bird games will begin at 5:30. Washington Township

Friday: Washington Township Volunteer Fire Company will have bingo at 7 p.m. at the firehall, 4078 Route 66. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and sales start at 6 p.m. Free coffee. The kitchen will be open. Players must be at least 18 or accompanied by an adult.
